Global NCAP: Annual Meeting Final Programme Released
Global NCAP have released the final programme for their 2012 Annual Meeting to be held in Melaka, Malaysia on May 23 and 24. Organised jointly with the South East Asian Safety Week, the Global NCAP Annual Meeting will bring together leaders from consumer crash test programmes around the world.
HRH Prince Michael of Kent, patron of the Commission for Global Road Safety will also attend and present Global NCAP’s inaugural road safety awards.
Confirmed speakers include: Joan Claybrook, who as Administrator of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration launched the first ever NCAP in the USA in 1978; Ronald Medford, the current Deputy Administrator of the NHTSA; Max Mosley, the former Chairman of Euro NCAP; Lauchlan McIntosh, the Chairman of Australasian NCAP; Adrian Lund, President of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, and David Ward, Secretary General of Global NCAP.
The Annual Meeting will coincide with the inauguration of a new crash test laboratory built by the Malaysian Institute for Road Safety Research (MIROS). The laboratory will run the first test of the pilot ASEAN NCAP during the event. Demonstrations of crash avoidance technologies such as electronic stability control and anti-lock brakes for motorcycles will also be shown.
A ‘world tour’ of NCAPs will provide an overview of the activities of the major programmes now operating worldwide and a special focus will examine consumer attitudes to road safety. The Annual Meeting will also feature a seminar on vehicle safety issues relevant to the United Nations Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011-2020.
