Latin NCAP Calls On GM For No More Zero Star Cars

On the eve of the 2nd High Level Conference on Road Safety taking place in Brasilia this week, Latin NCAP has sent a letter to the CEO of General Motors, Ms. Mary Barra, criticizing the low safety levels of the Chevrolet Aveo, manufactured in Mexico and sold in Latin America.

Today Latin NCAP introduced six new crash test results, one of which, the Chevrolet Aveo, scored zero stars for adult occupant protection. View video.

In the letter sent, Maria Fernanda Rodriguez, President of the Board of Latin NCAP, states:

“The Aveo is typical of a poor overall GM safety performance revealed in five years of independent crash testing carried out by Latin NCAP. GM brand Chevrolet performs the worst of all the major global car companies”.

Latin NCAP also demanded “that GM confirms the immediate standard fitment of air bags in the Aveo in Mexico” and “the removal of all ‘zero star’ cars from GM’s global product range”
