Building vehicle safety capacity in ASEAN and China
Strengthening ASEAN and China’s road safety laws and aligning with international standards could significantly reduce road traffic deaths across both territories.
How best to enhance capacity to achieve greater legislative alignment was a core focus of the 2025 ASEAN and China Road Safety Capacity Building Workshop, held last month in Shenzen by WHO, CATARC, MIROS, UNECE, CITA and backed by Global NCAP.
Jessica Truong, Senior Advisor, Global NCAP, said: “Low vehicle safety standards across many ASEAN countries remain an urgent concern, but we already have part of the solution through legislative implementation and NCAP support. Bringing so many of the involved parties together for this workshop can only help to accelerate progress in building safety capacity.”
