Only two stars for Toyota Corolla Cross in Africa
The absence of side head protection in Toyota’s Corolla Cross, on sale in South Africa, has left it with a two-star adult occupant safety rating.
Tested as part of the Global NCAP #SaferCarsForAfrica campaign, the Corolla Cross could not undergo the side pole impact test, owing to its lack of standard side head protection.
Further areas for concern were the unstable footwell, lack of passenger airbag disconnection and the head of the three-year-old dummy being exposed in both side and frontal impact tests.
Global NCAP Chief Executive Officer Richard Woods said: “Manufacturers like Toyota know how to build safer vehicles and consumers in Africa deserve the same levels of safety performance that is standard in other parts of the world. Highlighting this disparity and democratising vehicle safety in Africa is a Global NCAP priority.”
