SIAT 2026: Industry gathers in India and puts vehicle safety in focus
Held under the theme "Innovative Pathways for Safe and Sustainable Mobility," SIAT 2026 was the largest edition in the symposium's history, drawing over 2,500 delegates and 14,000 exhibition visitors.
Global NCAP's participation underscored the symposium's focus on vehicle safety. CEO Richard Woods and Senior Advisor Alejandro Furas met with key industry and automotive media players to discuss Global NCAP’s plans for vehicles safety advocacy in India over the next five years. Alejandro Furas delivered a keynote on the Safer Cars for India campaign, the Global NCAP precursor to Bharat NCAP. His presentation made a compelling case for closing the safety gap between vehicles sold in developed and emerging economies — a central objective of Global NCAP's Safer Cars for Africa, India, and Latin American campaigns.
The symposium united policymakers, industry leaders, researchers, and academics in a rich programme of 247 technical papers across 64 sessions, three plenary sessions, and contributions from 275 exhibitors representing 10 countries. Eight global and national leaders offered strategic insights on policy, technology, safety, and smart mobility.
Technical sessions addressed critical challenges in commercial vehicle safety, two-wheeler protection, and vulnerable road user safety — including pedestrian detection, advanced braking systems, and crashworthiness for diverse market conditions. These are areas where Global NCAP's protocols and advocacy are driving meaningful progress.
SIAT 2026 reinforced the shared responsibility of all stakeholders in building safer, more sustainable transport systems, and Global NCAP looks forward to building a strong collaboration with ARAI's leadership team in the run up to the 2027 roll out of the new Bharat NCAP 2.0 protocol.
