Accepting lower US vehicle safety standards would put lives at risk
Global NCAP has joined more than 75 civil society organisations and leading European cities in signing a joint letter urging EU lawmakers to rethink the recently agreed trade deal with the US.
Why? Because the deal suggests the EU intends to accept lower US vehicle standards. Weakening European rules in this way would undermine decades of progress on:
Road safety: Europe’s high standards save lives every day.
Public health: cleaner, safer vehicles protect citizens.
Climate policy: ambitious regulations drive innovation towards zero emissions.
Global NCAP’s mission is to raise safety standards worldwide, not lower them. Accepting weaker rules would put people at risk and erode the EU’s global leadership in safety and sustainability.
We’re standing with partners across Europe to call for strong, consistent vehicle standards that protect lives, health, and our planet.
